It’s the start of a new year and that means that a lot of us have probably made some resolutions. Maybe, we’ve promised to eat better, be kinder, or finish a project. The possibilities are endless; it’s a new year and we all want it to be better than the year that came before.
This morning, thinking about resolutions, I came to the conclusion that I am not going to promise anything I know I can’t keep. Sullivan films and shows are full of characters who strive to make their lives better, who work hard and believe that they can achieve something good and worthwhile. They do it for themselves and most of all; they do it for their families. So instead, I’m going to take a page from characters like Honey Bailey, Hetty King and Anne Shirley and I am going to work hard. I will put in the diligence and hope that I will be able to make the things I want in life happen. If they don’t happen this year, at least I will have tried. I am going to be kind to others, not for some altruistic end game, but because I truly believe that we should be. And as clichéd as it sounds I will focus on being the best me I can be; too often we have other people’s views of how we should be and act forced upon us and that is exhausting. I will set goals, of course I will, but they will be realistic; things I know deep down I can do by working hard, but have been afraid to try.
What are your goals this year? Do characters like Honey and Anne inspire you as well?
